Many changes are coming to Century High after the conclusion of the spring semester-
teachers are leaving and classes are being cut. One of the largest changes is occurring in administration. This fall, Ms. Danskey, one of our assistant principals, will not be returning.
Ms. Danskey, who has been at Century for the past eight years as the dean of students, and as an assistant principal, will begin working for the Clayton School District in St. Louis, Missouri in the fall. She will be reassuming the title of assistant principal, though at Clayton High School.
Ms. Danskey expressed that the main reason for her departure is due to the fact that her sister, along with her brother-in-law and 18 month nephew live in St. Louis. “ I’m really moving to be closer to them,” she stated.
Though family isn’t the only reason. “School funding is drastically better,” Miss Danskey voiced. “The school that I am going to spends triple the amount that we do… They aren’t dealing with class size issues.”
At Century, with the amount of money that we have, there is almost a limit as to how much you can do. There isn’t always room to grow. Ms. Danskey expressed that, “ In my job, I am at the max of what I can possibly do. Survival is not the focus I want to have in my job. The more that I move forward in my job, the less able I am because of increased budget cuts and an increased workload.”
Ms. Danskey is relocating to an area where money isn’t going to stunt growth and high quality education.Though that isn’t to say Century is anything less. Ms. Danskey has many things that she is going to miss dearly.
“The thing I am going to miss most is the student culture. The culture is really positive, when you walk in the door here and your hands are full there is always a student to greet you and hold open the door,” she stated. “This is evidence of how kindly students treat each other. There are a lot of positive relationships here at school, cohesiveness is special to Century.”
Since the beginning, Ms. Danskey has been heavily involved in Century High School, working with both students and staff. This includes helping run the NASC conference held at Century last summer.
At this conference she made one of her favorite memories at Century. She explained, “ Last year, I made superhero t-shirts for [Ms. Servignat and I] at the National Leadership conference. They set up photo-ops all over the school. We pretended we were on a trip and brought backpacks and took these silly photos everywhere.”
Eventually, these photos were used as a welcome back present for the staff.
“Everything she did made [Century] better,” stated Century High School principal Ms. Guise. “She has a heart for children.”
Ms. Danskey leaving Century High School is going to be an adjustment. Though she leaves us with a final message, “When you leave as a student and as a graduate of Century High School, what’s the legacy you want to leave behind?”
Goodbye and good luck!
