While starting high school, or even continuing it, can be stressful and it’s an even bigger challenge staying on top of school work among sports, clubs, and other commitments. So to help ease the difficulty of staying on track, here’s a list of ten things to help you stay ahead.

First of all, keep a planner. Keeping a planner can be a monumental advantage, having a place to write down everyday events, homework assignments, and due dates can very well help to keep you organized, self-aware, and on track.

Secondly, stay organized. This can include having a binder with labeled dividers, a folder or notebook for each class, or even a file containing all your schoolwork. Having a place where information and work from your classes can individually be stored, organized, and easily accessed is a great way to stay organized and on track.

Third, block out time for your school work. Pick a time, whether it be right after school or after dinner, to do your school work. Having this allotted time to do school work helps force you do and complete your assignments. It also helps you manage your time more wisely, as your work time and free time are separate.

Next, plan when to do assignments according to their due date. If you receive an assignment that is due tomorrow that assignment should be of higher priority compared to an assignment due next week.

It’s also important to NEVER skip assignments, no matter their value. Every point given counts towards your overall grade. This may also lead to other unintended consequences that can negatively affect your judgement, motivation, and work ethic.

Studying regularly is another important aspect of staying ahead. Studying will help improve your performance on assignments, quizzes, and tests. This newfound tip will help your efficiency, allowing you to more easily stay on track and maybe even give you a little extra free time.

Another way to help you stay ahead, a version of studying, is Quizlet Flashcards. This vocabulary flashcard app consists of vocab cards for almost any subject, including languages and sciences.

Checking StudentVue regularly can help you stay on task. With the ability to check your assignments, test scores, and overall grade, you have the never-ending opportunity to be aware of assignments that need to be done, upcoming tests, and your overall grade. You will never have the excuse of not knowing about assignments or tests, thus having the ability to stay on top of things.

Communicating with your teachers is an important part of staying ahead. Being able to voice your concerns and ask questions helps you to be able to better understand the material, thus improving scores, and helping you stay ahead.

Finally, it is important to stay motivated. Keeping your eyes on the prize and being constantly reminded of your goals will help keep you motivated. Encouraging you to stay on top of things.

School can be stressful, but hopefully having a planner, staying organized, and all these other tips can help you stay on task and improve your learning experience.
