Overnight Chromebook Checkout

With desktop computers, laptops, and tablets going for at least a couple hundred dollars each these days, it’s not always practical for everyone to have a device. Nowadays, many schools are changing their curriculums and starting to use technology in the classroom. But not all students have access to the internet, making it extremely difficult for students to do the work and homework that is only accessible online. But there is now a solution to this problem.
Recently a major corporation in the Portland Metro Area, Nike, has donated money to Century High School. With this money the technology department has purchased forty more chromebooks for the school. But what makes these so special is that they are available for students to check out overnight.
“ If they don’t have a computer at home, they are able to use these for school work,” said Century Librarian, Ms. Merriman. This gives students easy access to the internet, and the ability to do their assignments.
As of now the overnight Chromebooks are not available, due to them being used for Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium, SBAC, testing. After testing the Chromebooks will be available for checkout.
When the Chromebooks are available, they can be checked out at the end of the day from the library. The Chromebooks can not be checked out for more than one day, and they must be checked in to the library before first period starts the next day. Although they can not be checked out for more than one day, as of right now there is no limit to how many times a student can check them out as long as they are returned the following day.
Ms. Merriman conveyed a message regarding the overnight check out Chromebooks. She said, “The chromebooks are here for school work and your educational needs. The rules that we have in place for the Chromebooks are to support those needs, so please respect these rules, respect us, and respect the library.”
And beware you do not receive a charger upon checkout, so spend your time wisely.
