Senior projects are a graduation requirement that many students dread but one group of students decided to seize this opportunity to create a video game.

Their game, “Terradox,” is being developed in the Unity game engine. All programming for the game is done in the C# programming language. When their game is done it will be in 3D with full virtual reality support.

“My main hope for this game is to make something good to put in for OGPC [Oregon Game Program Competition],” said Deryk Patraw, the lead programmer.

When you play, be prepared for a dark and horroific adventure. You play as the owner of a lumber company who has been cursed by Terra, the spirit of the forest, into a dream-like state after destroying the elder tree of a forest, releasing Terra’s spirit. The player must navigate through an eerie and nightmarish forest maze, and watch out for the man in the white shirt.

A video game is no simple undertaking. Almost every major video game release has had a team working on it, and this game is no different. Six students in total are working on the project, four of whom are doing it for their senior project.

Each of the members of JAGGPAD (JAGuar Game Programming And Design) team has a specialized role. Deryk Patraw is the lead programmer of the project. Micah Belden assists with the programming, but is in charge of Oculus Rift (virtual reality) integration. Level design and planning is done by Chris Deacon. Rachel Hetzel is designing the art and graphics for the game, which are all original. Of the two not doing it for their senior project, Noah Mead, junior, is the executive sound design engineer, and Sean Tellvik, senior, wrote the game’s gripping story.

This project has been a great endeavor for the JAGGPAD team. They were excited to share it on Tuesday, the 12th, when they had a beta test to evaluate the game’s performance. Noah Mead called it a success saying, “We found a lot of bugs to fix.”

If you missed the game and want to see it for yourself, the JAGGPAD team will be presenting it on Senior Project night, June 1st.

UPDATE: Terradox won Judge's choice at the OGPC on Saturday, April 23rd. The game can be found here.
